VOTS Highlights Puppy Packages During Immunization Awareness Month

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Virginia Beach, VA — In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month, VOTS is reinforcing the importance of early and proactive vaccination for puppies, with a special focus on canine parvovirus, one of the most serious and preventable infectious diseases in dogs.

According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), vaccination protocols should be tailored to each individual pet based on factors such as age, health status, lifestyle, and exposure risk. VOTS follows these evidence-based guidelines to ensure every patient receives appropriate, personalized care.

Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. The virus attacks the gastrointestinal tract and can lead to severe dehydration, organ damage, and death if not treated promptly. Early vaccination remains the most effective method of prevention.

Puppies should begin their parvovirus vaccination series between 8 and 10 weeks of age, with additional booster doses required to complete their protection. Until the vaccine series is finished, VOTS advises pet owners to limit puppies’ exposure to high-risk environments such as dog parks, beaches, pet stores, and training facilities.

To support new pet owners during this critical stage, VOTS offers comprehensive Puppy Packages designed to simplify preventive care. These packages include core puppy vaccinations, routine wellness exams, and expert veterinary guidance to help ensure a healthy start to life.

“Early prevention is key,” said a VOTS spokesperson. “Our Puppy Packages provide structured, affordable care while giving pet owners confidence that their puppy is protected during their most vulnerable months.”

Parvovirus is transmitted through contact with infected dogs, contaminated environments, and even indirect exposure via people or objects such as leashes, toys, food bowls, and shoes. Due to the virus’s durability in the environment, strict hygiene and vaccination compliance are essential.

Common signs of parvovirus include lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, vomiting, fever or low body temperature, and severe or bloody diarrhea. Most fatalities occur within 48 to 72 hours after symptoms begin. However, when detected early and treated promptly, survival rates can reach 90 percent.

VOTS encourages pet owners to seek immediate veterinary care if parvovirus is suspected.

VOTS remains committed to providing high-quality, preventive veterinary care and strongly recommends core vaccinations for all canine patients. Pet owners interested in learning more about Puppy Packages or scheduling an appointment are encouraged to contact VOTS directly.
